Darby BeDell, MD

PGY-2 Resident

Hometown: Edwardsville, IL

Medical School: University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences

What is your favorite rotation you’ve completed so far?   I’ve liked all my rotations; if I had to choose, I would say either GI or GYN

What attracted you to the U of M for residency?  The faculty, residents, and PAs are all amazing and supportive of one another! I would choose it again in half a heartbeat!

What are your hobbies, or favorite things to do outside of work? I love spending time with my family, traveling, hiking, watching movies, and listening to music.

Darby was born and raised in Edwardsville, Illinois where he attended Southern Illinois University and received dual Bachelor’s degrees, one in Genetics and one in Violin Performance. He went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Violin Performance in Madison, Wisconsin where he performed with the Madison Symphony and Wisconsin Chamber Orchestras. Following completion of his degree at UW, Darby won a full-time position with the Rockefeller String Quartet and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, where he performed for audiences in Little Rock as well as elementary school interactive performances across Arkansas. After several major life events, the passion for science was rekindled and Darby attended UAMS for medical school. The amazing pathology faculty, staff, and residents, and the wonderful location made the UMN an easy choice for residency! In his free time, Darby loves to spend time with his family hiking, traveling, and watching movies and soccer (yay, the US men’s team is starting to look decent).
