Katarina is from Massachusetts, received a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences with distinction in research from Cornell University, and a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Katarina has a research background in T-cell biology and cell-based therapy development, and was interested in training at the University of Minnesota because of the program's exceptional support for resident research, and the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology's ties to the University of Minnesota Center for Immunology, where she has joined a basic immunology lab focused on the fundamental biology of tissue-resident memory T-cells and their application in novel therapeutic development.
